What: A semester long AP Computer Science A studio that allows students the opportunity to explore code, robotics, VR, artificial intelligence, game design, and sound engineering.

When: 2022 spring semester, Wednesdays 12:00-5:00pm

Time commitment: 10 hours per week: 5 hours of in-person studio, 5 hours of coding outside of studio

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need previous experience in computer science, engineering, or robotics?
A: No prior coding experience is required, but Algebra II is needed.

Q: Who is eligible to apply?
A: Any Boston Public High School sophomore, junior, or senior is eligible to apply. Priority is given to students from schools where AP Computer Science A is not offered.

Q: Do I need to have a certain GPA to apply?
A: Nope! All you need is a passion for learning and innovation.

Q: Will it be in person or virtual?
A: All weekly studio will be in person, however office hours will be offered virtually.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Nothing! The Digital Ready does not charge any tuition or fees.

Q: How many hours should I dedicate each week to the studio?
A: Studio members should expect to invest about 10 hours per week in the studio. This will include 5 hours of in-person studio time and 5 hours of coding outside of the studio.

Q: How do I get there?
A: You can take the T or bus to Forest Hills T Stop and then take the shuttle from there to campus.

Q: Will I get a grade for the studio?
A: Yes, the studio is graded and will appear as AP Computer Science A on your high school transcript.

Q: I saw you mentioned AP Computer Science A. Do I have to take the exam offered by the College Board?
A: The Future of Work Studios offers a AP Computer Science A course which is audited and certified by the College Board and will follow the AP Computer Science A curriculum and competencies. However, taking the AP exam at the end of the semester is optional and will not affect your course grade.

Q: What if I don't understand something in the studios or need extra help?
A: The studio instructors will hold office hours twice per week to help ensure you have all the support you need to be successful!

Q: Will I work by myself or as part of a team?
Each student is placed in a 4-person coding pod with students from different schools. In addition, you will be assigned a partner for pair programming or someone to help you debug your code!

Q: Will I get to go on any field trips or see any real life industry workspaces?
A: Yes! The studios will be run by industry professionals, and we will utilize the city as our lab to visit several industry sites in Boston.

Q: Can the studio be added to my high school transcript? What about my college applications or resume?
A: The AP Computer Science A course can be included on your high school transcript. In addition, all studio members will emerge with a digital portfolio that they can use to apply for a tech apprenticeship in the summer of 2022.
