In this badge, students gain a conceptual understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM), an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architects, engineers, and construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. Students apply this understanding through demonstrating basic modeling, visualization, coordination, and project management skills within the context of authentic, hands-on projects.

The Details

  • BIM: Ability to explain the key underpinnings of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric modeling relationships;

  • 3D Modeling for BIM: Ability to create 3D models of architectural structures using BIM elements that are virtual representations of the real-world;

  • Navigation and Documentation: Ability to enhance a model by adding and manipulating components and loading component families and by adding text, specifying dimensions, and creating schedules;

  • Model Visualization: Ability to use modeling and visualization techniques for presenting a design;

  • Project Management: Ability to use BIM tools to support project management.
